| Proclamation of Independence |
The Declaration of Independence, signed on May 14, 1948 by 37 signers, is set out in four parts: the first discusses the history of the Jewish people; the second proclaims independence; the third names the guiding principles of the new state; the last section calls upon the Arabs of Eretz Israel to preserve peace, and extends an offer of peace and good neighborliness to all neighboring states and appeals to the Jewish people throughout the Diaspora to rally round the Jews of Eretz Israel. |
